What is teeth whitening?
Teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure which involves bleaching your teeth to make them brighter in colour, improving their appearance. Many people seek teeth whitening if they have stained or yellowing teeth and would like to be more confident in their smile.
This procedure is carried out by a qualified dental professional. Teeth whitening may not be a suitable treatment for some people, such as if you have gum disease or crowns, and it will not work on false teeth or dentures.
How does it work?
Teeth whitening can take two forms. The one more commonly used by dentists involves making a mouthguard you can wear from an impression of your teeth and giving you bleaching gel which you can apply regularly to the mouthguard from the comfort of your own home. This is a slower process which can take several weeks to work.
Here at Skinique Aesthetics we focus on the laser whitening form of teeth whitening, also known as power whitening. In laser whitening our dental professional will paint a bleaching product onto your teeth and then shine a laser onto your teeth to activate the product. This approach is much faster and can achieve results within a single hour long session. Results can last from a few months to a few years
Are there any risks?
As mentioned above, teeth whitening isn’t permanent and is likely to wear off faster if you smoke or regularly drink red wine, tea, or coffee. If you have sensitive teeth and gums, the treatment may irritate or burn your gums.
